Rain

Lightning flashes; thunder roars. The humidity is so high Daniel's water cup is sweating. It's 90 degrees and there's still no rain. We impatiently watch the radar on Weather Underground, hoping that spot of purple will arrive quickly. The thunder grows louder, and the lightning becomes more frequent. Still no rain. We wait for it on the porch. Bethany and Grace remember they haven't gotten the mail, so they run down to get it. Suddenly, a cold wind starts blowing. Beth and Grace return to the porch drenched; the rain has finally arrived. A summer thunderstorm has begun.

But not today. Today, it's cold and grey. There's no lightning, thunder or sweating cups. No one watches a spot of purple on Weather Underground. We watch the rain from the living room, under blankets. Mom goes around closing doors and windows, hoping to get warm eventually. Finally, the rain stops; it looks like the sun might even push aside the clouds to warm up the earth. A fall rain shower has finished.

  1. I think you missed 1A's point (Renaissance Muse). I love thunderstorms, too. But there was no storm yesterday, just cold, gray, dreary drops of dew. It was an October rain. The weather perfectly reflected my miserable attitude.

August should be hot and steamy all day long, followed by a furious wind that sweeps in cold air. Crashes of thunder should echo across the hills and reverberate in the trees. Huge drops of rain should splatter on the ground, washing away the sweat of the day.

August should not be 60 degrees.
