of course, you all remember the main plot point of Dr. Sueuss's immortal "If I ran the Zoo" was the young child trying to decide what he will be when he grows up. (btw- don't forget to celebrate Dr. Seuss's birthday next week.)
I am now old enough that I should decide what I want to be when I grow up. But, I find myself as confused as I was at 17, 18, 19, 20 .... And, when I am totally mystified by a question, I like to hash it out with people. I like to argue and debate the merits of all the options. Unfortunately, I don't know what the options are.
So, dear people who know me best, (and love me anyway) what do you think I'm good at? What might be a good career for the next phase of this journey? (remember, I'm planning on living until I'm 120 so I will be asking this same question again in 40 years) I'm not terribly motivated by money, so that part isn't too important (thank you, Larry) But, it has to be project oriented and have deadlines. I love deadlines. It can't involve aerospace, because I'm too old, and legally blind. I don't want it to be too time consuming (med school is out) because you are all too important for me to put on hold. And, travel isn't really an option (darn - that'll have to wait for phase 3)
Pretty please, try to come up with a suggestion to help me on this. It would mean an awful lot to me. Even if I don't take your suggestion, beginning the discussion will help me to think.
Love you all.

journalist. good for the deadlines.
ReplyDeletepainter. good for the projects.
writer. good for not making any money.
go to beauty school! It is one of my goals before I die.
become an editor at a publishing house! Then you get to impose deadlines on other people. another one of my dreams. I love love love shredding. but people these days are too sensitive about having their work ripped a part... :(
ok that's all I got so far. and those are all things I wanted to do, so...
I should say something about neuroscience but I don't like neuroscience. I mean, I like reading about it/ hearing you talk about it but I don't like to be tested on it.
can't go to beauty school. I don't like touching people.
ReplyDeleteI like the editor idea though. As most of you can attest, I am pretty good at ripping apart someone else's work.
A career test I took said that I should get a science degree and then work as a freelance writer. But, that would involve selling -- ugh! Never gonna happen.
::sigh::

ps- some of you people aren't very good at giving feedback. This is the second plea for insightful suggestions I have made. And one of you has answered.
oh no I don't want to touch people I just want to learn how to do hair and make up for myself :)
ReplyDeletethough I guess part of learning that is touching other people's hair/make up...
